ACCOMMODATION :

Can you better explain ‘international hotels’, ‘small family (owned) lodgings’, ‘cruising’ and ‘yacht charters’?

International Hotel Accommodation

Tahiti’s tourism industry describes these international standard properties as ‘classified’, a description which relates to the generally high standards that these properties subscribe to.
There are around fifty properties which fall into this category, located on eleven of Tahiti’s islands predominantly in the Society Islands, with a number also in the Tuamotu Atolls, rounded off with a few in the  far-flung Marquesas Group. These hotels represent around 3,100 rooms, bungalows and suites each and every one with a style of its own. It is not hard to figure that with an average of around 62 units total per hotel that the majority of these hotels and resorts are small and intimate by global standards.
These properties carry an enviable list of internationally renowned and respected brands, each of which has adapted their signature products to the unique Tahitian environment. The adoption of Tahitian principles is especially present in the architecture with the extensive use of local materials such as thatched pandanus roofing, huge bamboo, native hardwoods, mother of (black) pearl shell, and a host of special touches that are distinctly stylish.
Of course, the most exquisite element of local style is the unique elegance and luxury of the overwater bungalow. This unique accommodation experience was created in the Tahitian islands in the late 1960’s by the well known Bali Hai Boys, a crazy bunch of Californians that settled in Moorea with their own (very hospitable) style of hospitality.
Climate, calm protected lagoons and unique local materials mean that the Tahitian overwater bungalow is undisputedly the most exotic and romantic accommodation available in the tropics. Whilst a number of other destinations have copied the concept, there is still nothing like the ‘real thing’.
Accommodation does not deliver romance. Breakfast delivered in an outrigger does. A private overwater balcony cocktail at sunset does. A late night show of fish dancing-in the-light through the Perspex floor of your bungalow does.

What international brands are present?

Accor Hotels (3 Sofitel); InterContinental Hotels & Resorts (4 Resorts); Four Seasons Hotels; Pearl Resorts; Relais & Chateaux;  Hilton Hotels (2 Hilton resorts); Starwood Hotels (2 Le Meridien, , 1 St Regis); Conrad, Le Brando, Maitai Hotels

Small Family (owned) Lodgings

Probably one the South Pacific’s best kept secrets. Tahiti’s residents and a handful and friends, family and adventurers from around the world have been spoilt by a huge range of small family owned and run properties.
Ideal for those travellers who crave authenticity and the opportunity to meet locals, some of these properties are to be found in the most of amazing of locations and surroundings.
There are literally hundreds of these properties spread through the islands, each owned and managed by a local family, and there are a number of different levels of comfort and facilities available. Some properties will have up to 10 individual bungalows, others just a lone accommodation unit or bedroom within the family house.
Breakfast is included in the price, and many will offer another meal during the day either lunch or dinner. With freshly caught seafood from the lagoon, combined with superb fresh tropical fruits and vegetables, the food is a fabulous experience on its own.
ften the hosts will have their own list of activities and excursions that they will have developed to maximise their specific area. These will often range from lagoon trips, fishing, hiking, picnics, isolated ‘motu’ experiences and the like.
Whilst much of the focus here is on the ‘local experience’ those wanting the opportunity to escape and find idyllic peace and space are also well catered to.

What is a ‘guest house ’ or a ‘pension’?

This is the commonly used French description for these family own lodgings described above.

Cruising

The hospitable waters of Tahiti and her Islands play host to more than 700 cabins in different cruise experiences. With the combination of ocean and lagoon cruising, and the spectacular scenery, this style of tourism is becoming more and more sought after?
Vessels range for the large luxury of Princess Cruises’ “Tahitian Princess”, to the elegance of Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ “Paul Gauguin”, through to the epitomy of private yacht exclusive intimacy aboard Bora Bora Cruises’ “Tu Moana” and “T’ia Moana”. At the other end of the scale, the mixed cargo and passenger operation onboard the “Aranui 3” is one of the world’s last remaining community life-line shipping services of its kind, whilst Archipels Croisières’ fleet of sailing catamarans offering adventure and flexibility.
The various options proposed offer incredible variety in their cruising grounds and the activities offered, as well as the choice between scheduled and charter operations.

Yacht & Boat Charters

Totally underrated, Yacht Charters around the islands of Tahiti offer one of the very best options for those wanting an exceptional holiday. Mainly available in and around the Society Islands, the primary base is the island of Raiatea.
A number of companies offer options from bareboat to fully crewed and guided charters, with a number of motor vessels and game-fishing boats also available.
As a cruising ground these islands – especially the Society Islands’ Leeward Group – offer a remarkable number of sheltered natural mooring areas combined with easy navigation through excellent marking in passes and channels.

What is the difference between “half board” (demi-pension); full board (pension complete)?

The term ‘half board’ generally indicates that pricing includes breakfast, and either lunch or dinner, although in most cases today it is dinner rather than lunch.
‘Full board’ indicates that there are three meals per day included in the tariff.

The individual elements included can vary from product to product and you should check these in each product’s individual presentation and description.

Will I need to present a voucher each time I check in at my accommodation ?

Yes. We like to ensure that all the relevant conditions and details of your reservation are indicated and a voucher is a great way to achieve this. Vouchers for your reserved accommodation will be sent to you by e-mail after full payment of your booking.
You will also need to remember that in almost all cases you will be asked by your accommodators to present a valid credit card to guarantee the expenses that you are required to pay direct over (minibar, laundry...).

EXCURSIONS, ACTIVITIES & TRANSPORT:

Will I need to present a voucher to each excursion, activity or transport operator?

Yes. All purchased excurions, activities, and transport will require a voucher. These vouchers will be sent to you by  e-mail after full payment of your booking.

Top of page

PRICING :

Are airport transfers included in the vacation packages?

Yes. We always include airport and other necessary transfers in our vacation packages.

Why are there differnces in prices at different periods – even for the same vacation ?

This is simply due to the seasonality and demand fluctuations that apply to various components of your selected arrangements, mainly the airlines. The global village that is our word today means that the laws of seasonality may not follow accepted logic!
